About
Elizabeth Salerno is an Italian-American flutist and piccoloist currently based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In 2024, Elizabeth was awarded 1st Prize at the National Flute Association Piccolo Artist Competition and was also awarded the prize for the Best Performance of the Commissioned Work. She is a laureate of several other international competitions including the Kujala International Piccolo Competition, the Carl D. Hall Piccolo Competition, the Dutch International Piccolo Competition, the San Francisco Flute Society, and the Tampere Flute Festival Piccolo Artist Competition.
Elizabeth also performs as a soloist and chamber musician and has substituted in several orchestras including the Danish National Symphony Orchestra (DR Symfoniorkester), Royal Danish Orchestra (Det Kongelige Kapel), Copenhagen Philharmonic, Esbjerg Ensemble, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Opera, and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. As an educator, she has taught at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and has served on the jury of the Nordic Piccolo Artist Competition.
Elizabeth earned her Master of Music in Piccolo from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and Master of Music in Flute and Soloist Diploma from the Royal Danish Academy of Music. She also holds a Bachelor of Music and Certificate in Arts Entrepreneurship from the University of Iowa. Her principal teachers include Ulla Miilmann, Peter Verhoyen, and Nicole Esposito.
From autumn 2025, Elizabeth begins a new chapter as part of the incoming class of Artist Diploma students at the Norwegian Academy of Music and also joins the Malmö Symphony Orchestra as acting solo piccolo.
